Eclectic Chess, formed by Andrew Walker and myself in 2021, are renewing our chess operations, suspended during Covid and the death of Andrew's mother. We are sponsoring a chess tournament to be held at the Altamont VFW, 11 Mill St., Altamont, NY, with 2 rounds on October 11, 2026. Round 1 from 10 AM-1 PM, then a 1 hour break for lunch. Round 2  from 2 PM-5PM. Registration by email only, to hawkphil2@aol.com no later than October 10. Entry fee is an affordable $15.

The tournament will consist of rated and unrated games, allowing beginners and experienced players alike, to play chess together.

The unrated section will consist of scholastic and adult players, divided into 2 sections; U700, and U1200 provisional ratings. Membership in the USCF will not be required, although players who are members will play other members at equivalent rating levels.

Two other sections will consist of 1) U1850 and 2) U1400 playing rated games. If you wish to play an unrated game in this section and test you chess acumen, indicate your intention when you register. There may or may not be another player who will agree to do the same. Current USCF membership required in section 2, All games will be played in game in 90 min./no delay. Chess equipment, including clocks, may be on hand, but please bring yours.

The VFW has a bar that you can buy both alcoholic and soft drinks. Under age must show ID if drinking alcohol. Andrew and I will take orders for lunch at your expense, menu selections from Paisanos pizza and wings, La Herradura - a Mexican restaurant, or Village Pizza for subs and pasta. Otherwise you may bring your own food.
